Matrimony



the wind and the rock danced around each other
until the wind grew tired and the rock wore smooth
and the rain pleaded to them through the night
and the stars sent conciliatory gestures that were ignored
’til at last the moon took her place upon the bench
and proclaimed them forever to be bound
